The Far Out Five, Hello Kitty Gum and magic mushrooms
I’m not sure what I’m doing here to be honest - bear with me
OK so I wanted to start a Substack for a few reasons:
Firstly I’ve got loads of things going on at the moment that I wanted to tell people about.
Secondly with interest and interactions on X/Twitter dwindling (for me at least) I wanted somewhere to direct people - although I am on Bluesky which feels a lot more like the twitter of old so find me there.
Thirdly I’ve heard lots of other authors/funny people talking about having a Substack and I suffer from FOMO (Fear of messing up acronyms).
I’ll try and update ‘on the reg’ as the cool young folk probably stopped saying some time ago.
I’m literally sat typing this whilst watching the North London Derby (it’s half time and Arsenal are currently 2-1 up). The only real news from today was I went to Primark to buy some tights (not for me) and also bought some Hello Kitty Apple flavoured chewing gum (for me) whilst I was queuing to pay. I have become a bit of a chewing gum addict ever since I came back from the Edinburgh Fringe in September 2024 and had to have a couple of sugary-snack-induced fillings.
In terms of work, I’m currently writing the script for a graphic novel for kids aged 7-11. It’s for a sequel and the first one isn’t out till February 2026. Writing the follow up to something no one has seen yet is a bit of a strange experience.
I’m also in the process of designing the cover for book one. Nothing has been decided looks-wise yet but it’s going to be a three book series and the series name is ‘The Far Out Five’. The title may or may not look like this.
I think that’s it for now. The only other thing of any note to say is that I’ve recently started taking Lion’s Mane mushroom gummies – apparently they aid concentration. Not sure if they work or not but I am finally doing this Substack malarkey after thinking about it for a while now so perhaps they do.
I hope this has been informative and worthwhile. I might go and watch some YouTubes about How To Successfully Do Substack before my next one.
At the risk of sounding like Columbo - here’s one more thing before I go - it’s a Viagra joke I wrote today. A lot of people think writing Viagra jokes is easy but in actual fact… (I’ll let you finish off that sentence).
See you next time for more general waffle.
